The mud pump sometimes referred to as a mud drilling pump or drilling mud pump is a reciprocating piston/plunger pump designed to circulate drilling fluid under high pressure down the drill string and back up the annulus. A mud pump is an important part of the equipment used for oil well drilling. Commonly used mud pumps are piston-type or plunger-type. The crankshaft of the pump is driven to rotate by the power machine. The crankshaft passes through the cross head and then drives the piston or plunger to reciprocate in the pump cylinder. Under the alternate action of suction and discharge valves, the purpose of pressurized circulation of flushing liquid is realized.
