要成型压块或片剂，需要压压工具。可使用直径为10-60 mm的压压工具。标准直径为40 mm。每个直径需要单独的工具。
片剂的材料厚度约为6 mm。实现稳定片剂所需的比压强度，以及6 mm厚片剂所需的材料量，需通过经验确定。
对于粉末状样品材料，颗粒大小不应超过200µm。
样品材料必须具有黏结性，或必须添加黏结剂以获得坚固的片剂。
金属屑应小于1.5 mm
在横截面上应为2并且在压力下应可流动变形。
